Sam Wallis: Leading GIA into a Future of Innovation and Expansion

Sam Wallis has been the Managing Partner of GIA North for the last eight years. The restructure of the business sees Sam take on the role of CEO of GIA. He shares his insights into the company’s exciting future.

“Over the past 30 years, GIA has been at the forefront of specialist assessments in Daylight & Sunlight, and Rights of Light. Having evolved into a multidisciplinary practice, covering Neighbourly Matters, Wind, Building Consultancy, Measured Surveys and Plan Tech, we are involved in some of the highest-profile developments – from The Shard, Chelsea Barracks, and 20 Fenchurch Street to Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Manchester’s Northern Gateway, Media City, and the Naas Road Masterplan in Dublin. What sets us apart is our ability to find creative solutions to challenges that others may consider unsolvable. This mindset has been the key to our success.”

How has technology enhanced GIA’s capabilities?

Technology has played a vital role in propelling us forward. With digital solutions such as Phoenix  and VU.CITY, we can provide information swiftly and access high-quality data presented in accessible 3D formats. Looking ahead, cloud computing and advanced integration tools will further expand our capabilities, adding more value for our clients and keeping up with industry demands.

What are the main challenges the industry faces, and how is GIA positioned to address these?

City centre densification and asset repurposing pose significant challenges. However, these also present opportunities for GIA. For example, our expertise in tall buildings and live wind analysis enables us to help clients navigate complex issues and achieve their goals, while considering regulations and the environment.

What can we expect next for GIA?

Over the next five years, we plan to expand regionally, nationally, and internationally. We’re confident in our leadership structure, investment strategy, and innovative approach. Embracing digitisation and integrating large volumes of data will transform the industry, benefiting our clients and stakeholders immensely.

Ultimately, GIA is leading the way in innovation, ready to capitalise on a dynamic industry landscape and technological advancements. With our rich history of creative problem-solving, unmatched expertise, and commitment to digital transformation, GIA is shaping a future defined by quality data and agile solutions.”
