GIA consult across the New Urban Centre for London

We are proud to be working with British Land on the Canada Water Masterplan, which Southwark Council Planning Committee recently resolved to grant planning permission for.

The mixed-use scheme will create around 1 million sq ft of retail, leisure, entertainment and community space alongside c. 3,000 new homes of which 35 per cent will be affordable. It will also deliver around 2 million sq ft of workspace accommodating c. 20,000 jobs.

It will be the first new urban town centre in London for 100 years, with 12 acres of new open space, including a 3.5-acre park and new town square.

Wellbeing and sustainability have been embedded into the scheme and buildings have been designed to support low carbon living.

GIA provided Daylight and Sunlight and Overshadowing services. The size, scale and complexity of the scheme required us to develop bespoke software and methodologies to properly understand and communicate the scheme.

The Masterplan covers 53-acres and is expected to take around 15 years to deliver. It will encompass Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, Surrey Quays Leisure Park, the Printworks and the former Dock Offices courtyard.
