Hours: 9.30am to 5.30pm

GIA is an independent firm of chartered surveyors and technical specialists.  We are the leading practice in rights of light and neighbourly matters and are pioneers in the field of designing for daylight in increasingly dense cities. Daylight and Solar Design department:

The Daylight and Solar Design department is an international team of 17 young people with diverse backgrounds, including building engineering, architecture, physics and environmental science.

We work with world-renowned architects and developers on a wide verity of projects ranging from small skyscrapers, masterplans and urban regenerations.

We help deliver the required densification of London by maximising the development potential of a site whilst optimising its daylight and sunlight performance. Through a combination of technical input and client-facing work, we assist developers and architects from the early stages of design all the way to planning determination.

As the largest most experienced Daylight and Sunlight team in the United Kingdom, we have developed services which have become the industry standard. We conduct internal research projects to push the boundaries of the discipline and have an in house R&D team developing bespoke software for us.

Our ideal candidate would:

  • Be a student or recent graduate in Architecture/Building Engineering or related subjects
  • Have an intermediate knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Be able to read architectural drawings and translate them into 3D models
  • Have the following skills, Rhino, AutoCad, InDesign, Photoshop and Excel (basic knowledge)

Whats in it for you?

Interns would typically be assisting with the production of 3D models , running simulations and preparing graphically compelling reports.

However, each internship programme can be tailored depending on the duration of your stay with us, your aptitudes and interests. Topics could include design optimisation, architectural typologies research and workflow development, but we would be happy to hear your ideas.

You will work alongside each member of the team from Design Analysis level to Partners and will take part in weekly meetings. You will also be offered technical and theoretical training in Daylight and Sunlight matters.
